Anne K. LaFond MSc is the Director of the JSI Center for Health Information, Monitoring and Evaluation (CHIME) and Senior Evaluation Advisor at John Snow, Inc. (JSI). She has engaged with global health research, monitoring and evaluation and program design for 35 years to maximize the use of evidence and learning in addressing health challenges for people in low-income settings. Anne served as the Senior Advisor for Research, Monitoring and Evaluation in the Innovations for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Initiative, which focused on evaluation of social and behavior change innovations in Ghana, Kenya and Sierra Leone. In this context, she also led comparative case study research on the role of human centered design (HCD) in MNCH programming, developing the first influence pathway analysis of HCD. Anne has served on the Board of Advisors for USAID and BMGF’s Design for Health community of practice, collaborated on the development of the MeasureD Manual to guide investment in HCD and HCD measurement, and is Adjunct Faculty teaching M&E approaches to designers at the School for Visual Art’s MFA in Design for Social Innovation. She specializes in strategic planning and health program design, including theory of change development, and facilitating data use for improving health system performance. Anne is the author of Sustaining Primary Health Care, a five-country study on local and international health sector investment and its effect on health system sustainability.
